4/27: Launch of report: "A Community of Contrasts"
[Another community event happening tomorrow.]
---------- Forwarded message ----------
On April 27, at ACRS, there will be a launch of a major national report entitled "A Community of Contrasts: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States." This is a demographic study done by the Asian American Justice Center in D.C. (formerly the national Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium), with partners such as the Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern California. ACRS is a local partner for the national launch.
The report gives a more accurate view of our communities and through doing so can combat ignorance and damaging stereotypes about our population.
To quote Karen Narasaki and Stewart Kuo, we hope the report will help policy makers, government agencies, courts, corporations, foundations and community organizations to better understand and meet the needs of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Using the information, we can work better to develop better answers to the problems our community faces in our efforts to be a greater part of our nation's social, economic and political life.
Registration will start at 9:30 am, program 10 am - noon, light lunch at noon. The program is free to the public but does require RSVPs to Ming Tanaka, at 206-695-7582. The launch will be held at Asian Counseling & Referral Service (ACRS) on 8th & Dearborn (720 8th Ave. South), second floor.
You are all invited to come! Please take time to come!
